WeHo owners are now eligible for earthquake renovation incentives

Homeowners of single-family homes in the city of West Hollywood can now turn to aEarthquake reinforcement + bolt (EBB)incentive program developed by the California Residential Mitigation Program to help homeowners cover the cost of seismic renovations to their homes. Homeowners in zip codes 90046, 90048 and 90069 are eligible to apply for a limited number of randomly selected seismic renovation grants of up to $ 3,000 to help pay for costs associated with renovating homes to reduce damage caused by the earthquake.

The goal of the program is to help homeowners reduce the potential for damage to their home during an earthquake by “hardening” the crawl space, as needed, and “bolting” the foundation to the framing. a house. EBB has helped thousands of California homeowners with renovations. During the 2021 program, EBB offers aAdditional grantto help low-income homeowners pay for earthquake-resistant renovations.

Registration for the EBB program is currently open. Owners can find the details of participation atwww.EarthquakeBraceBolt.com. Registration will be open for a limited time; Once registration is complete, eligible owners will be selected by random draw, after which they will be notified if they have been selected or placed on the waiting list.

Residential seismic retrofits strengthen older homes, making them more resistant to damage from an earthquake. This is done by bolting a house to its foundation to improve the connection between the timber frame and the concrete foundation, and adding plywood bracing around the perimeter of the crawl space to prevent the house from tipping off its foundation.

The Earthquake Brace + Bolt (EBB) program is part of the California Residential Mitigation Program (CRMP), a joint exercise of power entity formed by its members, the California Earthquake Authority (CEA) and the Governor’s Office of Emergency Services. . (Cal OES).
