In March 2022, the number of foreign and resident visitors was 108,800, which is 2.3 times more than in March 2021 and 36.6% more than in March 2020, when the impact of the pandemic had just started. . Compared to March last year, the number of overnight stays by visitors stood at 202,100, or 2.1 times more.
In March 2022, 47.1 thousand foreign visitors were welcomed in tourist accommodation establishments, i.e. 6.5 times more than in March 2021. The number of nights spent by non-residents increased by 5.1 times and amounted to 89.6 thousand. In turn, the number of Latvian visitors hosted, compared to March 2021, increased by 50.7% and amounted to 61,700. The number of nights spent by residents increased by 42.9% and stood at 112,500, according to data from the Central Statistical Office of Latvia.
In the first quarter of 2022, the number of foreign and resident visitors to Latvian tourist accommodation establishments amounted to 276,400, which is 2.1 times more than in the first quarter of 2021.
Compared to the first quarter of the previous year, the number of nights spent by visitors increased by 96.3% and amounted to 512,000. Visitors spent an average of 1.9 nights in accommodation establishments sightseeing.
In the first quarter of 2022, the number of foreign visitors was 113,000, five times more than in the first quarter of the previous year. The number of nights spent by them increased by 4.1 times and reached 222.4 thousand. The majority of foreign visitors came from Lithuania (17,600), Estonia (14,100), Germany (10,400), United Kingdom (9,400), Russia (6,100), Poland (5,600 ), Ukraine (5,500) and Finland (3.9 thousand).
Among foreign visitors, 34.7% or 39.3 thousand came from neighboring countries – Lithuania (15.6%), Estonia (12.5%), Russia (5.4%) and Belarus (1.2%) .
Most foreign visitors were received in Riga – 82.9%, Jūrmala – 5.1%, Liepāja – 2.6%, Mārupe Municipality – 1.3% and Sigulda Municipality – 1.2%.
In the first quarter of 2022, tourist accommodation establishments hosted 163,400 Latvian residents, 50.3% more than in the first quarter of 2021. Compared to a year ago, the number of nights spent by residents increased increased by 40.1% to 289,500.
Latvian visitors stayed mainly in Riga (31.5%), Jūrmala (16.5%), Liepāja (6.5%), Sigulda Municipality (5.1%), Cēsis Municipality (4.2 %), Daugavpils (3.9%), Kuldīga Municipality (2.6%), Madona Municipality (2.5%) and Valmiera Municipality (2.4%).
