Mohali, June 5

Continuing their crackdown on anti-social elements and home owners who fail to show up for tenant checks in Mohali, police today launched a search operation at Purab Premium apartments in Sector 88 here this morning.

More than 100 cops reached the 15-story housing project and conducted a door-to-door search for wandering homeowners. As many as 200 show cause notices have been served on homeowners who have failed to do their tenant verification and are running illegal paying guest accommodations from their apartments. Three FIRs have been registered against individuals under IPC Section 188 at Sohana Police Station.

Led by DSP City-2 Sukhjeet Singh, the police began going door to door at 6 a.m. and continued the operation until 10 a.m. Nearly 600 families live here, while a significant number of apartments have been rented out and operate as paying guesthouses. Residents here often complain that anti-social elements take refuge in the society as PGs are readily available without much formality.

Apartment owner Gurbachan Singh said: ‘This is a welcome step for the police to verify tenant verification. I don’t understand why this hasn’t been done sooner. Regular checks will automatically eliminate the bad elements of the company.
