Until last Saturday, around 50 police officers assigned to the St James’ Special Operations Area (ZOSO) were rushing to find accommodation – some in the same communities they raided and engaged criminals in shootings . Here are some reactions from readers via The Gleaner’s social media pages:
“Why do we always disrespect the police? Didn’t they build shiny new barracks for the soldiers in Montego Bay? Why can’t they do the same for the police? It is a disgrace and a disservice. BTW, this ZOSO is not worth it, the overhead is too high.

âIt’s madness and a shame. The government sent JCF a ZOSO area without thinking about their accommodation. It is typical of this government; there is no direction and long term planning on any issue. It’s time for the public to have their say through the ballot box on their rental at Gordon House.

âThey have to knock and teach a lesson, I don’t know who will learn though. Sick.”

âCommissioner, why have you put the cart before the horse? Stop stressing out people’s pickney. Protect yourself, officers!
– @ SimpsonAnnette6
âWell, if I was the officers and got kicked out on a mission, instead of putting my life in danger, I would go home. The organizers of this ZOSO or SOSO must show consideration and respect towards the police officers they have appointed to exercise these functions. How do you think an agent can concentrate fully when they don’t know where they’ll be resting at the end of their shift? And that will compromise their security. Good God, they are also human beings, with families to take care of. The job is already high risk, so why does this level of abuse make a bad situation worse? Put them in hotels.

âThis is sheer negligence, enuh. We must protect the security forces at all costs. The joke is if it was ever a man doing that to a woman, you wouldn’t hear the end of it.
– @sweetnesscavel
âIt deserves 50 resignations.
– @ markland876
âMi read dis nuff time ah cyah understand. So the government is going to risk their lives once again in the weh dem raid community; say is suicidal.
– @uptop_claudia
“That nuh mek meaning, aren’t these policemen someone’s husband, father or children?” Come on, it’s like sending your men into unarmed combat, KMT … a real slack.
– @dicotadavidson
âI will never love this government. They take all who work for them as puppets, police, soldiers, nurses and teachers; and these workers do not even receive sufficient wages to compensate for their discomfort. ”
– @ jabari_001
“The real infantrymen receive no protection, while the deputies, the commissioner and the PM are well protected by security.”
