DEHRADUN: A day after a hidden camera was found by tourists from Delhi and Ghaziabad in the hotel room where they were staying in Tehri district, the Uttarakhand Police Department gave instructions to the hotels and guest houses to take steps to ensure that such incidents do not occur. place in the future.
Ashok Kumar, Director General (DG) of Law and Order, told TOI: “Instructions have been given to all hotels, lodges and guesthouses in the state to ensure that the privacy of customers is not violated at any cost ”.
Kumar added that installing a camera inside the hotel room or in a bathroom is completely illegal and any hotel engaging in such wrongdoing would face severe penalties.
Separately, the owner of the hotel in Tehri was arrested on Tuesday after tourists found the camera hidden in their room. Police also recovered an antenna from the room and seized a laptop and computer.
In Dehradun, police have also asked hotel owners to review the privacy policies of their respective facilities and ensure that no spying or espionage devices are installed inside the rooms.
“We will give instructions and also convene a meeting of the hotel association to ensure that the incident that occurred in Tehri does not happen again,” said Nivedita Kukreti, Chief Superintendent of Police (SSP) Dehradun.
