Marriott International announced a new partnership with Amadeus to access the technology and distribution company’s central reservations system.
According to Phocuswire.com, Amadeus officials called the Marriott deal a “historic milestone” and said it builds on the company’s work with Intercontinental Hotels (IHG) since the launch of the partnership in 2015.
Amadeus is working to create a community platform, and officials believe the agreement with Marriott is a “strategy endorsement” aimed at offering a platform that brings together property management and central reservations systems.
“These are very large enterprise customers and it was a very significant investment by Amadeus to bring this next-generation platform, which we’ve built from the ground up on the latest, cloud-native technology,” said said Amadeus Peter Waters. “It shows the commitment we have to this segment of the industry.”
“We didn’t want to have a product me too, we wanted to do a transformation step,” Waters continued.
IHG moved into the second phase of its guest reservation system implementation in 2019 and began piloting attribute pricing, a platform feature that allows hotels to aggregate rates and services and to encourage personalization.
Amadeus believes attribute technology should help hotels capitalize on the current direct booking trend. Waters said Marriott properties should be able to reap the benefits of technology at a “rapid pace because much of the development has already been done.”
Waters revealed that Marriott has not finalized an implementation timeline.
