Jobs as owners of new Ingleby Barwick Italian bistro and grocery store start hiring

The owners of an Italian bistro and a delicatessen which will soon settle in Ingleby Barwick are recruiting staff.

Work is “almost complete” on The Onion bistro in Lowfields stores. Its owners are also opening the Greedy Soul Deli, along the same parade of shops. Neal Bullock, Leo Bullock and Andy Platts are planning an opening in early July. And with little time to go, they went on a hiring spree to find everyone from chefs to deli counters.

Greedy Soul Deli, at Katie Bee’s former florist shop, will sell cold cuts and cheeses while also offering coffees, sandwiches and paninis. The Onion Bistro will offer a “tailor-made” menu including homemade pasta dishes. Ideally, the team wants to find people “within the local community” to fill positions at both sites.

Positions available include two full-time barista counter employees, and successful candidates will ideally have “cafe-style food preparation and counter sales experience.” Barista coffee experience is a plus but “not essential as training will be given”.

Shift patterns will vary over seven days comprising days and evenings, working 40 hours over five days with salary to be discussed at interview stage. They are also looking for four part-time counter staff or servers, covering day and evening shifts over seven days.

The Onion Bistro is looking for a chef de partie with experience in Italian cuisine and the production of fresh pasta, but this is not essential as full training will again be provided. An up-to-date food hygiene certificate must be produced during the interview. Shifts are 40 hours spread over five days, with a mix of days and evenings.

A full-time front desk supervisor and four part-time front desk servers are also required. Catering company Greedy Soul has also acquired several other venues, including The Derry in Long Newton, The Fountain pub in Ormesby, Pot and Glass pub in Egglescliffe and Station Five Deli in Eaglescliffe.
